Community Foundations are institutions that pool funds in support of a certain locale. Among the many good causes they often champion, libraries are often at the top of the list.

Technology Questions for Non-Profits
I love TechSoup. http://www.techsoup.org/
In addition to incredible software deals at TechSoup Stock http://www.techsoup.org/stock/default.asp?visit=1, the forums provide very valuable insights for organizations/groups on a shoestring budget.

THEY GIVE TO LIBRARIES!
"To maximize our impact, the Georgia-Pacific Foundation and GP operations invest in four key areas: Education, Environment, Enrichment of the Community, and Entrepreneurship."
I applied for this grant for OFY's tour to Green Bay - one of the company's service areas. I will have to let you know the results.

Madison's Rotary is the 7th largest in the world... pretty cool.
The foundation seeks grant applications that
- demonstrate a commitment to the central Rotary value of service above self;
- help young people become outstanding citizens;
- improve the quality of community life and
- foster international understanding and goodwill.
Obviously there is potential for library programs for youth here.
The grant is due at the end of November each year.
990 Finder
Definitely in my TOP 10 Resources...
http://foundationcenter.org/findfunders/990finder/
A 990 Finder allows you to look up the IRS Forms of Non-Profits AND Charitable Foundations. There is tons of information to be found in these documents... from who to address a grant to, how much to ask for, how much administration costs are, etc.

The Chazen Foundation
At UW, many know the name Simona and Jerome Chazen because they are supporting the expansion of the Cahzen Museum of Art. An article about their gift to the university can be found at : http://www.news.wisc.edu/11160
This is how I first learned of their incredible generosity in the arts. So when I was the Grants Manager at Madison Opera I wrote a request to fund the company's Student Matinee opera production of The Magic Flute. Part of what made me think this would be a good fit was Mr. Chazen's connection to opera (he was on the Board of the Metropolitan Opera), and both of their love of art. At any rate, The Chazen Foundation provided a gift in the amount of $1,000.
Incidentally, I am fascinated by this couple's career path. I would love to read a biography.
An article about Mrs. Chazen:
http://www.chazen.wisc.edu/about/news/Chazen_Brava_Article.pdf
Mr. Chazen is one of the founding member of Liz Claiborne. And in my own game of seven degrees of separation game... Tim Gunn, from Project Runway and Tim Gunn's Guide to Style, is now Liz Claiborne's chief creative officer.
Again, I digress. The Chazen Foundation information can be found at:

Alliant Energy Foundation
http://www.alliantenergy.com/docs/groups/public/documents/pub/p014350.hcsp
Alliant Energy Foundation is incredibly generous in the communities it does business. In 2006, the Alliant Energy Foundation funded 460 Community Grants totaling more than $630,000. They are an obvious match for Opera for the Young in a number of ways: culture, education, civic... What is incredible for our organization is their equal commitment to serving rural communities. Many grants appear to be centralized in urban centers, but this grant spreads the wealth, giving many opportunities for access that would not otherwise.
THEY ARE AN EXCELLENT SOURCE FOR LIBRARY SUPPORT!
